Premier videographer and documentary cinematographer in Tokyo, Japan

I’m a British Tokyo-based freelance cameraman and DP with over 20 years of experience working with international broadcasters and major brands in Japan.

After studying Architecture and then Cinematography in Sydney, Australia, I returned to the UK in the early 1980s, where I was a film camera assistant for 7 years. During this time I was primarily working with Oscar-nominated Barry Ackroyd BSC, and others of similar stature, on drama, music videos, and documentaries. In the late eighties, I made the move to Director of Photography, before relocating to Tokyo in 1991. Having shot a small budget feature ‘Tokyo Skin’ I set myself up as an English-speaking DP catering for overseas productions coming to Japan, providing fully-equipped video crews including soundman, fixer, all necessary equipment, and transport.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve shot countless documentaries for the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, History Channel, ITV, Arté, Smithsonian, ZDF, and HGTV, amongst others. I have also shot corporate videos for many of the world’s major brands including Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, Canon, Sony, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, GM, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, ExxonMobile and Tiffany.

I combine an excellent knowledge of Japan with a good eye – and the best shot I ever do will be the next one.
